When Alina Baraz initially emerged in 2015, it was as a duo with Denmark producer Galimatias; the pair's joint EP, Urban Flora, is a package of lush, electronic slow-jams that drew comparisons to Rhye and Lana Del Rey. Here, on her first full-length, Baraz steps into the spotlight with minimalist R&B songs that put her silky soprano front and center. Experimental electronic production still plays a part---'I Don't Even Know Why Though' is a swirling duet between her and the synthesizer---but even when she's joined by breakout star Khalid ('Floating,' 'Electric'), it's Baraz's smoky whisper that keeps us wanting more.

Alina Baraz is a singer and songwriter whose uniformly mellow material flits between downtempo electronica and slightly left-of-center R&B. Originally from Cleveland, Ohio but based in Los Angeles, California following a creative epiphany, Baraz gained some notice in 2013 through her collaborations with producers Galimatias ('Drift,' 'Make You Feel') and ESTA ('Paradise'). Baraz and Denmark native Galimatias developed a deeper creative partnership, instigated by Baraz via SoundCloud, which birthed Urban Flora. Credited to both artists, the eight-track EP was released by the Ultra label in May 2015 and debuted on the Billboard 200 chart at number 111. Baraz followed up in early 2017 with a collaborative single, 'Electric,' this time featuring guest vocalist Khalid. Alina Baraz, a 21-year-old singer/songwriter from Los Angeles, brings ethereal melodies to her latest EP 'Urban Flora' with Danish producer Matias Saabye Køedt, who experiments with a range of instruments, snags and echoes in an effortless manner. The artwork alone gives listeners an insight into what can be expected of Alina Baraz & Galimatias. Urban Flora features 8 tracks, laced with smooth tempos and sultry vocals to create a project worthy of the millions of plays it has accumulated since its release. Together, the pair who met on Soundcloud, take a modern approach towards R&B. Urban Flora is rich in texture, but beneath its layers lays tales of passion, lust and infatuation. “All that you are is all that I need”, Alina sings on Show Me, “I’m all yours.” The duo certainly do not shy away from expressing themselves.
